Shipping & Returns
When can I collect my order?
Reserve one of our limited fifty bottles via our online rolling pre-order by Monday 4 May, to collect from Saturday 9 May, from one of our local studio partners in Nairobi.
Our Quality Promise & Returns
Because each bottle of Ambre is personalised: made to pre-order and engraved with your preferred initials, we generally do not accept returns, even if the bottle is unused. However, If there is anything wrong with your Ambre, please contact us as soon as possible via returns@journaldupole.com to arrange a return and deliver your Ambre back to one of our local studio partners so that we can make it right.
Allergic reactions
Ambre is specifically formulated with Vitamin E to reduce the risk of sensitisation from Colophonium (pine resin), a known skin sensitiser. However, in case you have a pre-existing sensitivity, we recommend a patch test before first use. A tester is available with our local studio partner. In the event of an allergic reaction, discontinue use immediately. We are unable to offer refunds for used bottles on the basis of an allergic response, but we will provide formulation and safety information on request to support any medical consultation.
European Union 14 day cooling off period
Subject to our Quality Promise above, if the merchandise is being shipped into the European Union, you have the right to cancel or return your order within 14 days, for any reason and without a justification. As above, your item must be in the same condition that you received it, unused, with tags, and in its original packaging. You’ll also need the digital receipt or order confirmation.
Refunds
Approved refunds are processed within 5–10 business days to the original payment method.
Please remember it can take some time for your bank or credit card company to process and post the refund too. If more than 15 business days have passed since we’ve approved your return, please contact us at refunds@journaldupole.com.
Our Community Promise
Lifting as We Climb
We donate 10% of profits from each batch to the Trans and Queer Solidarity Fund Kenya (TQSF), because it is important to us that we lift as we climb.
See our first Annual Report, due in 2027 for an update on our total contribution so far.
The Continental Quota
We reserve a quota of each batch for the Continent, because we want pole dance and aerial enthusiasts—including climbers—to have access to quality grip products at accessible prices.
As we grow, for every 50 bottles sold internationally, we subsidise 50 bottles for our African movement community.
Environmental Impact
Our intention to grow with a positive environmental and social impact governs everything we do: from our product design and supply networks, to our relationships with our community and stakeholders. We are actively working towards B Corp Certification as we grow.
Recycling, Reusing & Reducing Our Packaging
We package our product in amber glass bottles because it is a better recyclable alternative to plastic, and the glass vessel ensures the quality of our product by avoiding leaching from plastics into our grip formulation.
We pack each bottle in a thick, durable canvas sleeve that snugly fits around the bottle to protect it, prevent it from slipping out and breaking, and serve as a reusable carrying case for life.
Our Supply Chain
Production
Our small-batch, limited-reserve production made to order allows us to reduce waste and minimise emissions. We produce only what is needed, when it is needed.
Shipping
Our strategic partnerships with local studio partners and retailers who facilitate collection for our global community of pole dance and aerial enthusiasts, climbers, and others, allow us to consolidate our international shipments and reduce emissions. By creating regional "batch hubs" (Nairobi → London → future nodes), we transform individual deliveries into efficient bulk freight.
